Centennial Conference Cancels Fall Sports
The Centennial Conference, which includes colleges such as Dickinson, Juniata, Franklin & Marshall and Moravian, announced that they are suspending all fall sports in the midst of the COVID-19 epidemic. In its announcement, the league said there would be no football but left out the possibility for other sports such as cross country to be re-evaluated in September.
The text of their announcement is below:
LANCASTER, Pa. — The following is a statement regarding athletic activity for the fall 2020 semester.
Given health and other related concerns, the Centennial Conference Presidents Council has decided to suspend any inter-collegiate competition for sports scheduled for the fall semester. The presidents will reevaluate this decision by the end of September, based on work to be done by the Conference to assess sports-specific activities and the experiences on the schools’ campuses. The presidents have determined football will not be played in the fall. The Conference will also explore the possibility of shifting certain fall sports, including football, to the spring.
Officials – Update your Info in ZebraWeb
Assignor Larry Moser reminds all members of the chapter to update their information and available dates for the upcoming 2020 Cross-country season. While we might not know how the season will operate in the wake of COVID-19, Larry is proceeding as though the conference schools will be holding all their meets this fall.
One difference is that there is an uptick in meets that will involve three or more schools. Regardless of the type of meet, assignments will be made as soon as all the information in loaded into ZebraWeb. In the meantime – make sure your information is updated and any dates when you can’t take a meet are blocked out.
IMPORTANT UPDATE – Chapter Meetings Postponed Until Further Notice
Due to the corona virus outbreak and Governor Wolf’s closure of schools, we will not have our normal meeting place at Carlisle High School available to us for at least the next two scheduled meetings.
As more information becomes available in this constantly changing situation, we will email members and post updates about when and where meetings will resume and any other changes that PIAA might institute concerning our meeting obligations.
