A recent interpretation from PIAA Track and Field Interpreter Jim Ellingsworth has clarified that socks with a Superman (or other similar) theme with “capes” or other adornments added to them do not meet the definition of “Foundation garments” and runners wearing them must remove them before competing. They will not be permitted in district meets and the state meet, and all officials should enforce this interpretation for the remainder of the season.
